Here is an interesting broadcast covering the development of SSB for Amateur Radio.
The broadcast covers other interesting amateur radio topics (also some USA adverts) and is well worth watching.

Ethics and operating proceedures for the Radio Amateur
The international Amateur Radio Union have a long and very interesting document about operating ethics on the radio.
It highlights common problems and issues and has a good section on the fine art of CW communication. PSK and other digital modes are also covered.
Examples from the text are as follows:

Zello update.
We introduced you
to Zello on this blog and since then I have been listening around to some of
the many Amateur Radio Channels (go to www.zello.com and look for the channels link,
type in “Amateur” or “Ham Radio” in the search facility). One nice new channel
I found and had a chat on was “World Wide Amateur Radio” which currently has
60+ participants.
Why not try the
Amateur radio channels and let the blog know (comments) if you find any
interesting ones.
Have fun talking!

Comments about the Isle of Man Amateur Radio Society.
Well, I have awaited the IOMARS "the only official blog site" to post the report on the AGM in December 2012.
It seems they have relied on the "Soap Box" rather than the official web site…
STATEMENT "formal minutes of the meeting are expected to become available to members of the Society".
How far in the future will this happen? I was a member in the year of the AGM.
STATEMENT "A repeater update was made available from the repeater keeper and this regretted no progress with GB3GD and GB3IM antenna situation (Snaefell),"
Must now be 9 years since pressure was brought to government regarding this matter.
STATEMENT "Mike Webb (co-opted on to the committee) stated that he had made his contact details available so that he could raise concerns about the Society with the committee, he stated that he had received no emails or phone calls and that he was aware of a small group of individuals who were unhappy about certain matters".
Now this is a strange statement as Mr Webb sent an email to me albeit to the wrong person…following that a lengthy conversation took place between him and myself regarding the state of the club over the telephone he stated that he would make my comments known.

Get on your Soap-Box and chat on line
Can’t contact a friendly amateur on the repeater, not answering his phone, would like an online chat about Amateur Radio; why not use the “Zello” application to make contact.
Zello (www.zello.com) is a simple to use application for your iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, Android device or PC (Not available for Mac yet) which is described as a Walkie-talkie application; with a Wi-Fi or data link you can use this simple application to make contact from around the World (or around the Island). Iomars.blogspot has opened a chat channel called “iomars” which requires no password and is free for Amateur Radio operators communications.
If your friendly amateur is not available to talk, just leave a message and when he looks at his Internet linked device he will see a note and be able to hear your message (like an ansaphone) and get back to you.
Some 10 million individuals have Zello and it is used by many Amateur Radio groups and Repeaters around the World, give it a go and keep talking!!
